First "Online Oshaberi Dale" event held on Friday night

Friday, August 19: Dale graduates enjoyed a lively conversation and exchange of ideas in this online mix and mingle session

After receiving many requests from our Dale Carnegie Training graduates for a place to talk and connect with other alumni, we held our first ever "Online Oshaberi Dale" on the evening of Friday, August 19.

Hosted by Chizu Sasaki, Sales Consultant and Trainer, and Noriko Naruse, Community Manager, the online event provided an opportunity for Dale graduates to share updates, daily challenges, goals and good news of the year over their favorite beverages. We welcomed a wide range of alumni from those who recently completed the Dale Carnegie Training to seasoned veterans who have participated in the training as coaches as well.

At the beginning of the session, participants got into small breakout (discussion) groups and after introducing themselves, discussed their concerns and challenges in the workplace. Topics included "people not greeting each other," "the importance of names," "how to build confidence as a leader," and "face-to-face and online communication”.

We then discussed ideas on how to encourage people to greet each other and provided suggestions such as: "greeting others proactively yourself," "calling people by their names," and "consistently greeting people even if do not respond.”

Those experienced in management positions offered valuable advice on the issue of "becoming more decisive and confident as a leader." They shared their advice on leadership, saying, "If you do not take action and gain experience, you will never gain any confidence in the first place," and claimed that "there is new insight you can gain after making a decision even if you think you have collected all the necessary information.”

The challenge of in-person and digital communication was another common theme. We discussed how with so many people working remotely and communicating online, maintaining a sense of connection is difficult. Additionally, we talked about the importance of using Dale Carnegie’s Human Relationship principles and consciously taking action to break out of our daily routines and comfort zones.

In addition to workplace concerns and challenges, we also shared our goals, accomplishments, and good news of the year.
Several graduates shared the wonderful news that Dale Carnegie Training helped them achieve their goals.

In the latter half of the session, the conversation went in various directions, including the power of showing appreciation to others, the connection between storytelling and “rakugo” (a traditional Japanese comedy genre), good restaurants in Akasaka, and the importance of sharing bad news as well as good news.

We received many positive feedback from this event, and plan to hold a second "Online Oshaberi Dale" this fall. We will announce the date on our website, newsletter, social media and other media outlets as soon as it is determined, so please keep checking and register to join us.

We look forward to another fun and fruitful session with you at our next event!
